We Have a New Name

For over 35 years, Children’s Ballet Theatre’s mission has been to provide a youth-oriented, community based ballet performance company in Michigan with the highest possible dance, artistic and performance standards, while fostering a greater appreciation of ballet as an art form. We haven’t changed the mission, but we have changed our name to Capital Ballet Theatre.

Capital Ballet Theatre (CBT), reflects more of who we are. We are an audition based, pre-professional company of dancers, male and female, ages 8-18, with excellent training opportunities and ballet instruction through our Academy classes, summer master classes, intensives and weekly rehearsals. “Many, if not most, of our dancers train at CBT to dance in college or in the professional dance field,” said Greg George, Artistic Director of CBT for over 18 years. Over 500 dancers have benefited from the CBT experience over the years.

Dancers perform the annual traditional classic, The Nutcracker every Thanksgiving weekend and a spring production of a story ballet every May. A Summer Touring Company performs throughout Michigan in August. This fall, the company will dance alongside Michigan State University’s Symphony and Orchestra in two separate productions November 21st and December 7th, 2016.

Capital Ballet Theatre is an all-volunteer organization with thousands of hours donated by CBT member families. CBT has an active Board of Directors which consists of family members, alumni and community members. CBT has a long-standing and ongoing relationship with Children’s Miracle Network providing performance opportunities for their dancers.
