About

The Children’s Ballet Theatre of Michigan

History of CBT

Welcome to the Children’s Ballet Theatre! Dedicated to quality, youth-oriented ballet, this independent, non-profit company includes children from ages 8 to 18. Dancers study technique at their regular home dance studios, then work with the company to create memorable, fun performances.

Our Mission

To provide a youth-oriented, community-based ballet performance company in Michigan with the highest possible dance, artistic and performance standards, while fostering a greater appreciation of ballet as an art form.

ProfessionalismFJ2T5022

Dancers learn the rigors of a professional ballet company, including extensive planning and rehearsing, makeup application, costume care, theater etiquette and respect for fellow dancers. This professionalism is also evident in the quality of sound, lighting and staging of each company performance. Under the direction of Artistic Director Jesse Rand Powers, dancers participate in creating their own choreography and exploring the inner artist.

Classic Family Entertainment

For over 40 years, CBT has thrilled mid-Michigan audiences with the talent and exuberance of its young dancers. Its annual Nutcracker during Thanksgiving weekend at the Wharton Center has turned this much-loved holiday classic into a can’t-miss local tradition. In addition to Nutcracker, the company performs classic ballets such as Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, in the annual spring show.
